The Egor Magistrate Court 4 in Benin City, Edo State has sentenced two former staff of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin City to three months imprisonment.
The two dismissed former staff were tried and convicted on a two count charge. Firstly, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace; conspiracy to commit misdemeanour. Secondly, the substantive count, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace by padlocking the main entrance of the Psychiatric Hospital gate with chain and key, and prevented workers to gain access to their respective offices.
In the case between the Commissioner of Police versus Oriakhi Osamwonyi and Theophilus Osifo, Suit No. MEG/212c/2014, they were prosecuted and judgment delivered on 16th day of November, 2018.
The accused persons were convicted on the two counts, and sentenced to three months imprisonment and option of fine of N10,000 each on the first count, while on the second count, they were sentenced to three months imprisonment and option of fine of N15,000 each. The case was presided over by Mrs. T.E. Omoruyi, with M.O. Iguodala as prosecuting counsel.
It is also worthy of note to mention that Oriakhi Osamwonyi has a case pending at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as well as a criminal case also pending in the High Court.
