Covid – 19: Stop filing frivolous petitions to security agencies or… Benin Monarch orders subjects

Benin Monarch, HRM Oba Ewuare II has ordered his subjects to henceforth stop the habit of filing frivolous petitions to security agencies.
The order he said was necessitated as it has come to his attention that “certain individuals, groups, and villages have engaged in making frivolous complains and claims to various security agencies.”
The Monarch stated this in a press briefing of journalists in his Palace recently, through a select Chiefs led by the Iyase, (Prime minister), Sam Igbe.
He warned, that violators would be made to face appropriate sanctions.
“… failure to heed to this word of caution may lead to a situation where erring individuals and groups indicted for delinquency will be made to bear the consequences of their action as stipulated by the provision of extant laws of the Federal republic of Nigeria, and attendance sanctions of the Benin Traditional custom and norms.”
He disclosed that the security agencies have always communicated him for the needed clarification in regard of petitions received.
According to him, members of the public should know that “there are established Palace structure, processes or procedure for handling such complains arising from dispute among and between individuals, or groups and villages.
“However, these structure at the moment have been placed on hold as a result of the pervading Covid – 19 pandemic.”
Consequently, all individuals, groups, and villages with genuine complains and claims that fall under the purview of the Benin Traditional Council should exercise the ultimate restrain, maintain the peace and restrain from making of any form of frivolous complains to security agencies until the Covid -19 scourge is over, and normalcy resumes, he admonished.
“… Wait patiently for the lifting of the various lockdown protocols and subsequent resumption of activity of established Palace structures charged with dispute resolution and adjudication of complains emanating from individuals, group and villages.”
The Monarch reiterated that “this restrain and maintenance of the peace is the minimum sacrifice that all and sundry are expected to make.
“To ensure that Covid -19 pandemic currently ravaging the entire globe is contained for the safety and security of life and the reassurance of public life pending when activities will be brought back to normal and rural issues pertaining to existing and emerging complains and disputes shall be resolved in line with the established process and procedures.”
He warned therefore, that “all individuals, groups, and villages who are engaged in this unwholesome practice should desist forthwith.
