Political banditry is not same thing as political dynasty.

By Uyi Precious A.

Political banditry is a painstaking hijacking of the State political process by supplanting fundamental political institutions with political Trojans.

The idea is a macabre practice to see through the building and maintenance of a systemic web of lackeys and cronies, to sustain the godfather’s avarice and hold onto power.
This is what NIGERIA political godfathers have done over years.

A Political dynasty evolve out of a founding Father’s altruistic drive to nurture a predictable system of political values hinged on institutional practices. The system is driven by transparent processes and a legal foundation to create for checks and balances.
When a Tinubu and an Oshiomhole dictate who becomes what in a supposedly democratic setting, it portends very great danger.
For a single individual to hijack the entire political process through the instrumentality of threats and blackmail is so despicable. The ‘Ambrode Treatment’ is a classic example of what a political process should never become.

NIGERIA is faced today with myriads of problems, which are direct offshoots of godfatherism at the individual, clan or ethnic bloc level. Godfatherism thrive on avarice, which is antithetical to the idea of transparency expected of an institutionally minded government.
Until folks like Tinubu, Oshiomhole and their lackeys/foot soldiers are retired from politics, AGBEROs and anarchists will always hold sway and defeat our common expectation to see a predictable working system.

This is why we should commend Godwin Obaseki for his tenacity and steadfast resolve to not cower to the threat and blackmail of Oshiomhole. That singular act is a precedent that has sets the tone for how a people should deal with greedy wicked men called godfathers.
Never again shall a man hold us to ransom… I wish Lagos would wake up.
