The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council has again expressed appreciation to the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II for providing members palliatives to help cushion harsh effect of the global COVID – 19 pandemic.
The Council also commended the Gov. Godwin Obaseki led administration for appointing Efe Stewart who members described as one of their own, as the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation. 
The Council made the appreciation to the Monarch, and the State Government in a communique signed by the Chairman, Sir Roland Osakwe, and the Secretary, Comrade Titus Akhigbe.
Arising from its monthly Congress held on Thursday, 20 July, 2020 in Benin, the Council in the communique also took decision on other issues of concern.
From its observation, campaign trend ahead of the September 19 Governorship Election in the State has become unsavory and treads on dangerous path capable of causing chaos in the polity, the Council said.
It therefore caution politicians and their supporters to religiously stick to rules of the game and make their campaign issue – based, devoid of character assassination as it is presently.
In the same vein, the Council observed that politicians in their campaign do not adhere to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) rules and regulations.
It advises that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), politicians, and all stakeholders should comply to stem spread of the pandemic as they carry out their campaign.
This is as it admonished journalists to be professional in the discharge of their duties by reflecting the views of all political parties in a matter, just as it warned against abuse of rights and privileges.
Also, the Council raised eye – brow against what it termed “abuse of privileges by some Civil rights groups who have formed the habit of bringing all manners of persons to the NUJ premises under the guise of protesting against one thing or the other.”
Suing for a change of attitude it warned, the practice would henceforth not be tolerated.
Reacting to unrestricted influx of all manners of visitors, a three man Security/Surveillance Committee was constituted to beef up security at the Secretariat complex.
The Committee has Comrade Festus Alenkhe as Chairman, Friday Akpomejero as Secretary, and Chris Kadiri as member.
