It was indeed a grand ceremony on Saturday 6th February 2021 as the leadership and delegates of the ten (10) wards of Egor Local Government chapter of the PDP in Edo State converged under the capable leadership of Barrister Nosa Adams the local government party leader and Chief Manfred Edehen Ekundayo the Egor Local Government PDP chairman, at Eghosa Grammar School Hall in Benin City, in what can be described as a show of unity and unbreakable solidarity. The purpose of the event was to give Honorable Stewart Efe, the immediate past Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation a grand reception and honor for being a formidable representative of the local government area in the state executive council in the first term of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
As if to debunk all the fake rumours making rounds that there is a rift in the leadership of PDP in Egor, the event which saw the hall parked to full capacity, howbeit with strict observance of Covid-19 protocol, had all the ‘who is who’ in Egor politics in attendance. None of the Local Government executives were absent. And former leaders of the APC who recently came with his Excellency Governor Obaseki to the PDP were all in attendance. And there was no discrimination whatsoever.
The atmosphere of unity and singleness of objective was so obvious in the meeting that even the blind could see it and the deaf could hear it, as the meeting began with the full hall singing along to “One Love” by Bob Marley.
Unity ! Solidarity !! and Focus !!! was the theme that pervaded the atmosphere as everyone seemed battle-ready to silence the enemies of division who keep spreading fake news about disunity in the family of Egor Chapter of the PDP in Edo State.
The Deputy State Chairman of the PDP, Honorable Harrison Omagbon was in attendance on behalf of the State Chairman. The State PDP legal adviser, Chief Barrister Arthur Esene was also in attendance to complete the entourage on behalf of the State executives of the PDP.
The event featured an honorary lecture delivered by Prof. K.U Omoyibo, titled “the need for productive service delivery by political office holders while in office.” And the man of the monent, Hon. Stewart Efe was given an award of honor by the Party.
Receiving the honor, Hon. Stewart Efe assured the party of his continous loyalty and readiness to serve in any other capacity he is called upon to serve.
Barrister Nosa Adams the Egor Local Government PDP leader commented that the reason Efe Stewart is being honored in this manner is because he did not disregard the party and his people when he had the opportunity to serve as a Commissioner. Saying that “A leader who honors his people, deserves an award from his people in return.”
Chief Manfred Edehen Ekundayo the Egor Local Government PDP chairman added his voice to this message by stressing that “PDP chose to honour Hon. Efe Stewart for the leadership role he played to unite old PDP and New PDP (old APC) members together…He has called for five (5) unity meetings at different strategic locations…Just for peaceful coexistence between the two bodies…”
The event ended with prayers and a battle-ready resolve to silence all the enemies of the party by remaining united. And all the 10 ward chairmen and thehir executives vowed to by all means resist any attempt to impose a local Government Chairman on the party in the forthcoming local government elections.
